XVII Perspektywy University Ranking 2016 took place on June 8 at the Central Agricultural Library in Warsaw, gathered together nearly 200 Polish academic leaders. Dr. Teresa Czerwińska, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education congratulated the best universities and faculties, the Ranking Board and representatives of the central institutions of higher education. Portal www.ranking.perspektywy.pl website recorded half a million hits on that day!

- Thanks to Perspektywy Education Foundation’s many years work the university ranking gained a high reputation. It is one of the most competent rankings, modifies the criteria, enhances them, follows changes - said Minister Teresa Czerwińska in her speech. - Ranking serves young people, when they decide on the choice of the university. It is also a tool for universities to compare themselves. It can also help Polish universities to occur in the world rankings.

Prof. Michał Kleiber, president of the Ranking Board said in his speech: - What is the ideal university and what we lack to achieve such a status? This one that has great academic teachers? This one that enjoys the prestige? that has international contacts? is innovative? These are the qualities that we expect from the university – Perspektywy University Ranking shows that universities are far from ideal and they have a lot to do, and which ones are closer to the ideal. Ranking is dynamic and must change itself because the world is changing.

During the ceremony the best public universities, private master level universities, state higher vocational schools and best faculties educating on 47 subjects.

In the XVII Perspektywy University Ranking 2016 the winner is the University of Warsaw, the Jagiellonian University in Krakow took the second place, and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan took the third place. The following positions were the three best Polish technical universities: Warsaw University of Technology, Wroclaw University of Technology and the AGH Academy of Mining and Metallurgy in Krakow.

In the group of non-public schools Kozminski University was succeful again. SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities took the second place, there is Polish-Japanese Academy of Information and Technology on the third place. In the ranking of state higher vocational schools, first place went to the Pope John Paul II State Higher School in Biala Podlaska.

- Our ranking is not only a tool that, used wisely, can help secondary school graduates and their parents in the educational choices. Ranking is also a compendium of knowledge about the current state of Polish higher education, panoramic photo of our universities taken here and now, presenting them and their their ambitions with a different, but not coincidentally selected prospects - says Waldemar Siwinski, president of Perspektywy Education Foundation, the creator of the Polish educational rankings.

Once again Fields of Study Ranking, covering up to 47 main fields of study or groups of fields of study, is the most important part of the study from the point of view of candidates. During the ceremony, the deans of the best departments received diplomas for first place in the ranking of the respective fields of study.

Ranking Board awarded Preferment Award 2016 for the most impressive jump to the group of top universities. The prize was awarded in two categories:

In the group of universities to the University of Silesia in Katowice, which moved up 4 places (from 17th to 13th place)

In the group of private master level universities to the Wojciech Korfanty Katowice School of Economics, which moved up from 12th place on the 9th.

As every year, additional prizes were also granted. In the field of publications the leader is Medical University of Gdansk. In terms of internationalisation the leader is Kozminski University.

Jagiellonian University in Krakow is the best in terms of academic potential and academic reputation.

University of Warsaw received the award for the highest academic effectiveness and prestige among employers. The innovation leader is Lublin University of Technology.
